Micromax Canvas Spark 3 – Ticks the right box

The most common and surefire step to allure people buy a product is to make it cost-effective and that is exactly what the Android makers in India do, nowadays. When talking about the best Android phone manufacturers that offer the best price, Micromax comes first. The company has been offering low-end smartphones with specific and useful tweak to cater the newbies especially the non-urban, non-English speaking folks who have been using only voice and maybe SMS service until now.

Mircromax Canvas Spark 3 is the latest feather to the company’s crown. This is perhaps the perfect smartphone for those who have never had a viable computing device they may afford and use.

Look and feel

As a Rs. 5000 phone, Canvas Spark 3 feels and looks quite good and it certainly doesn’t seem to be cheap or poorly fabricated like other Android phones of similar budget. The front is plain while the earpiece and camera tell you which way is up. Navigation buttons are on the screen leaving a very little blank space to the right and left of the screen so it becomes easy to stretch across with your thumb. It is light and comfortable to hold and use. Power and volume buttons are on the right side, audio socket on the top and Micro-USB port at the bottom while a metallic band runs around the sides. With its removable plastic panel with matte texture at the rare side, the phone provides a decent grip. Camera and flash are up the top while towards the bottom is the speaker grille. The phone features two Micro-SIM slots with microSD slot beneath the cover.

5.5 – inch screen, 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera, HD (1280*720 pixels) resolution, 1GB RAM, 8 GB storage, 1.3Ghz quad-core Spreadtrum processor, dual SIM, micro SD slot though the microSD card supports up to 32 GB, 3G enabled, WI-FI, Bluetooth 4.0, Android 5.1( which is the most desired) and 2.500mAh, Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Preloaded software

The phone is preloaded with a number of common software some of which are of much use. Amazon shopping, CM Security, Quickr, Snapdeal, Hike, Opera Mini, Gaana, Clean Master, CM Locker, M Travel and OLX are some of them to name.

Being an entry-level processor, it strives with hardware-based video playback. Problem of random frame drops is evident with gaming. Camera performance is another drawback while the picture quality is good in daylight but with lots of noise indoors. It doesn’t feature fast charging facility.

Though the phone has some cons, the overall feedback is good. We must not forget that a good proportion of potential market for Canvas Spark 3 has not used any smartphone or even any kind of computer device before. Considering the pros and cons, it could be a good buy for less than Rs. 5000.
