Virtual Reality, as the name suggests, “Realising the world of virtuality”. You live the virtual world through VR. Well, you don’t “physically” enter the virtual world but fool your brain by making your eyes see only the virtual world and hear what in the virtual world. In order to do this, you wear those VR headsets which completely cuts off the real world feed but just displays the feed from the virtual world.
Let’s look at some of the best VR headsets of this year:
- Oculus Rift
Released on March 28, 2016, The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset developed and manufactured by Oculus VR, a Facebook division Inc. It delivers an immersive 360-degree experience with educational software, video games, movies and much more. It is also compatible with personal computers. Priced at Rs54999, gives world-class experience and certainly value for money.
- HTC Vive
The HTC Vive is a VR headset developed by HTC and Valve Corporation together. The headset uses “room scale” tracking technology, allowing the user to move in 3D space and use motion-tracked handheld controllers to interact with the environment with precision. At Rs66000, users can have amazing technology as an option to the rift.

It was announced at the company’s I/O developer conference in 2016, with the first VR headset released on November 10, 2016. The most important thing about this VR is its low price. One can buy it at Rs7000 as a mobile accessory.
- Samsung Gear VR
The Samsung Gear VR is a mobile VR headset from Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with Oculus, and manufactured by Samsung. The headset was released on November 27, 2015.The device is reasonably priced, affordable VR headset in the list, Supported devices include Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, Galaxy note 5, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 plus etc. Its price ranges from Rs4000 to Rs7000 because of its limited usability to mobile phones.
All the above headsets are the most popular among VR world.
From Sony to Google, all the big names have invested in upcoming tech of their brand image in the market. Having all the info, I would say that the Vive, because of its tracking technology, wireless controls, and great graphics is value for money. However, that may change in the upcoming future, and ultimately content will be the decisive factor for these products.
